How to use the taekwondo scoreboard

Blue is on the left and red on the right; type names over them if you want. Start runs the round clock (2 minutes by default). Each athlete has a button per technique: Punch, Body, Head, Turn body and Turn head. Tap the one the judges score and its points go on. Tapping the big number adds one punch. Gam-jeom is a penalty: it adds one point to the other athlete and counts on the side that got it.

When the round clock reaches zero the horn sounds and the round is recorded under the scores. Next starts the rest clock and then the next round, which starts again from 0 to 0 when each round is scored on its own. Press End round to close a round early. Open display window shows the round, the clock and both scores in large type on a second screen. Two more combat boards: the judo scoreboard and the fencing scoreboard.

Point values, rounds and settings

The default values are 1 for a punch, 2 for a kick to the body, 3 for a kick to the head, 4 for a turning kick to the body and 5 for a turning kick to the head, common values in Olympic-style sparring. Rule sets change and differ between events, schools and styles, so check the values your event uses: every value is a setting, and the buttons show the value you set.

There are two match formats. With Win the most rounds, each round is scored on its own, the athlete ahead at the end of a round wins it, and the first to win a majority of rounds (two of three by default) wins the match. With Total points over all rounds, the points add up and the higher total after the last round wins. A level round or a level total is settled by the referees under your rules, so the board asks you to tap the winner. The number of rounds, the round length, the rest and an optional point gap that ends a round are all settings.

Questions

How do I give a gam-jeom?

Press Gam-jeom under the athlete who committed the foul. The board counts it on that side and adds one point to the opponent. Take back removes both.

Can I change the points for each kick?

Yes. Open Settings and type the value for punch, body kick, head kick and the two turning kicks. The buttons and the keyboard keys use the new values at once.

What happens when a round ends level?

With rounds scored on their own, the board asks you to tap the round winner, because a level round is settled by tie-break rules or the referees. With total points, a level total after the last round brings Decide winner buttons.

Does it keep the score if the tablet goes to sleep?

Yes. The clock runs from time stamps and everything is saved in your browser, so the score and the time left are right when you come back.
