How to use the CPS test
Pick a test length at the top: 1, 5, 10, 30, 60 or 100 seconds. Then click the big box. The timer starts with your first click, so there is no countdown to wait for and no head start lost. While it runs you see the clicks so far, the seconds left and your pace. When the time is up the box pauses for a moment, so a last burst of clicks cannot start a new test by mistake, and your result appears underneath.
On a phone or tablet, tap the box instead; every finger that lands counts as one tap. Restart stops a test halfway without saving it. Your best score for each length is kept in your browser and shown below the box, and Download CSV saves every test with its date, length, clicks and score.
How the score is worked out
CPS means clicks per second. The score is your clicks divided by the length of the test, to two decimals: 40 clicks in 5 seconds is 8 clicks per second, and 250 clicks in 30 seconds is 8.33. Only presses of the left mouse button (or taps) count, and a click that lands after the time has run out is ignored. The clock uses your computer's own time stamps, so a slow screen or a busy browser tab cannot stretch the test.
In this click speed test, short tests reward a fast burst; the 30, 60 and 100 second tests show how well you keep the pace up. That is why each length keeps its own best score. The chart under the tool shows your last test second by second (tenth by tenth for the 1 second test), and your scores over time at the length you picked.
Keyboard shortcuts
- 1 to 6: pick the 1, 5, 10, 30, 60 or 100 second test
- R: restart
- U or Ctrl+Z: undo the last saved test (or clearing the scores)
- F: full screen
- M: sound on or off
The keyboard never counts as a click here. To test how fast you can hit a key, use the spacebar counter; to count the left, middle and right buttons apart, use the mouse click counter.
Questions
What is a good CPS score?
It depends on the test length and on how you click, so the fairest yardstick is your own best score, which this page keeps for every length. Try the same length a few times and watch the chart.
Why does the timer start on my first click?
So the test measures clicking only. Nothing is lost to reaction time, and the first click is counted.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Tap the box. Each touch counts as one click, and the page does not zoom or scroll while you tap.
Are my scores sent anywhere?
No. Best scores and past tests stay in your browser. Share link puts your best scores in the link itself, and whoever opens it sees them as a score to beat, next to their own.
Why is my click sound so busy?
Every click plays a short tick. Turn off Sound on every click in Settings, or press M to mute the page.
