How to use the tally counter
Tap the counter or press Space to add a mark. Every fifth mark crosses the four before it, the same way you would tally on paper, so you can check the count at a glance. The big number above always shows the exact total.
Made a mistake? − removes the last mark and Undo steps back through your changes, including a reset.
Prefer just the number? The click counter is the same counter without the marks. To tally several categories side by side, use the multi counter, or the ready-made traffic counter and bird counter for surveys.
Open Chart: counts over time below the counter to see how many you added per minute, 15 minutes, hour or day. Print sheet prints the count with that time summary, Print blank sheet prints a paper tally sheet, and Share link makes a link with your count and settings.
Tally marks: the five-bar gate
Tally marks are grouped in fives: four upright strokes, then a fifth drawn across them. The groups make a count easy to check by eye, because you count the gates in fives and add the loose strokes at the end. 23 is four full gates and three strokes.
This online tally counter draws the same marks as you tap, so the paper habit carries over, but it also keeps the exact number, lets you take a mark back, and saves the count in your browser. A handheld mechanical clicker cannot undo a press or show you when each count happened; this one keeps a time-stamped list you can download.
When a tally counter helps

Questions
How many tally marks does it show?
It draws up to 300 marks (60 groups of five) and then shows how many more there are. The number above is always the exact total, however high it goes.
Is the count saved if I close the page?
Yes. It is saved in your browser after every tap. Nothing is sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The whole counter is one big tap area, it vibrates on each tap on Android phones, and Keep screen on stops the screen from dimming on browsers that support it.
What is the difference between a tally counter and a click counter?
They count the same way. The tally counter also draws tally marks in groups of five under the number; the click counter shows only the number, a little larger.
