Lap Counter
Tap the big number, or press Space, at the end of every lap. The timer and every lap time are saved as you go, so a refresh loses nothing.
Chart: lap times
Settings: lap distance, pace, target laps
How to use the lap counter
Press Start or tap the big number once to start the timer. Then tap once each time a lap is finished. Every lap gets its own lap time and a split, which is the total time on the clock when that lap ended. The fastest lap is marked in the list, and the average lap is shown above it.
Pause stops the clock, and taps are ignored until you press Resume. Undo lap removes the last lap if you tapped by mistake, and Reset clears the laps and the timer (Reset can be undone too).
Open Settings to enter a lap distance, such as 400 m for a running track or 25 m for a pool, to see the total distance and your pace. Set a target to get a tune and a green flash when that many laps are done.
Training indoors instead? The rep counter counts reps and sets with a rest timer, and the jump rope counter runs timed skipping challenges.
Counting several swimmers or runners
Choose Several to time up to 8 athletes on one shared clock, for example lanes in a pool or runners on a track. Press Start when they set off, then tap an athlete's card (or press their number key) each time they finish a lap. Each athlete keeps their own lap count, lap times, fastest and average lap, and the summary table compares them side by side. Name each card so the CSV file is easy to read.
Chart, print and share
Open Chart to see each lap time as a bar, with the fastest lap in green, or one line per athlete in Several mode. Print sheet prints the lap table with lap time, split, pace and totals; Print blank sheet gives a lap tally sheet with 40 rows to fill in by hand. Share link copies a link with your athletes, lap distance and target, but not the lap times.
Keyboard shortcuts
- Space or Enter: start the timer, then record a lap
- 1 to 8: record a lap for that athlete (Several mode)
- P: pause or resume
- U or Ctrl+Z: undo the last lap
- R: reset
- F: full screen
- M: sound on or off
Holding a key down records one lap only, and two taps less than a third of a second apart count as one.
Questions
Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?
Yes. The timer is worked out from the time you pressed Start, not from a running tick, so closing the tab, locking your phone or refreshing the page does not lose time. Your laps are saved in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
What is the difference between a lap time and a split?
The lap time is how long that one lap took. The split is the total time on the clock when the lap ended, so the last split is your total time so far.
How is pace worked out?
Pace is the total time at your last lap divided by the distance covered, which is the number of laps times the lap distance you enter. It is shown per 100 m for meters, per kilometer for kilometers, per mile for miles and per 100 yd for yards, and you can change this in Settings.
Can it count laps by itself?
No. It counts a lap each time you tap, click or press a key. For swimming or track training, a coach or friend usually taps as each lap is finished.
How do I save my laps?
Press Download CSV for a file with every lap time and split plus a summary per athlete, which opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
