Round Timer

A boxing round timer with a bell at the start and end of every round, a warning knock before the bell and a countdown you can read from the far side of the gym.

Settings

Type times as minutes:seconds, like 1:30, or as seconds. Changes are saved in your browser.

How to use the round timer

Press Start or tap the big clock. A short get ready countdown runs first, then the bell rings once and round 1 begins. While a round is running the whole face turns solid, so you can tell work from rest at a glance even when you cannot read the numbers. At the end of the round the bell rings three times and the rest period counts down on a plain face. The screen shows which round you are in, how many there are and what comes next.

Tap the clock again to pause, for example when a glove comes off. Skip jumps to the next part, Back restarts the current part (press it twice to go back one more), and Reset stops everything. Every one of those can be undone.

The clock is worked out from the moment you pressed Start, so it stays right if the phone locks or the page reloads. Press Full screen for the biggest numbers, and turn on Keep screen on so the display stays awake on a shelf or a wall mount.

Rounds, rest and the warning knock

The timer starts with 12 rounds of 3 minutes and 1 minute of rest, the usual format in professional boxing. Amateur bouts, sparring, pad work, kickboxing and MMA training often use other lengths, so open Settings and set your own round length, rest, number of rounds and get ready time, or pick one of the quick buttons for 2, 3 or 5 minute rounds.

The warning plays three quick knocks a set number of seconds before the round ends (10 by default), like the clapper a coach uses to call the last push. Set it to 0 to turn it off. In the final 3 seconds of every round and every rest you also hear a short beep each second. There is no rest after the last round: the final bell ends the session.

For circuits where each station has its own name and length, the interval timer takes a custom sequence, and the tabata timer runs 20 second bursts.

Questions

Does the bell work when my phone is locked?

The clock keeps the right time when the phone locks, because it is worked out from the start time. Most phones pause sound from a web page while the screen is off, though, so turn on Keep screen on and leave the page open for the bell to ring on time.

Can I use it as an MMA or kickboxing timer?

Yes. Rules for round length and rest differ between sports, organizations and levels, so the timer does not assume any of them. Type your own round length and rest in Settings and it runs them the same way.

Why is there no rest period after the last round?

The session ends with the final bell, so the timer leaves out the rest that would follow it. The total shown before you start is the real length of your session.

Can I show the timer on a TV in the gym?

Open the page on a computer connected to the TV and press Full screen. The face turns solid during rounds and plain during rest, which is easy to see from across a room. Share link copies a link with your rounds and rest so another device can load the same setup.
