How to use the traffic counter
For a manual vehicle count, each vehicle type has its own counter. Tap its number, or press its number key on a keyboard (1 for the first type, 2 for the second and so on), every time one passes. Shift plus the number takes one off. Rename, add or remove types to match your survey.
Every count is time-stamped. Download CSV gives the totals per type, a table of counts for each 15-minute block, and the full list of counts with times, ready for a spreadsheet.
For counting people rather than vehicles at an entrance, the attendance counter tracks in, out and how many are inside. To set up your own categories from scratch, start from the multi counter.
Print blank sheet prints a paper survey form: location, direction, date, observer and start time lines, then a row for each 15 minutes with a column per vehicle type. Print sheet prints your counts and the 15-minute totals. The chart shows each type's count and a line per type over time, and Share link makes a link with your vehicle types and counts.
Tips for a manual traffic count
- Use a laptop keyboard if you can: number keys are faster and more accurate than tapping a screen.
- Turn on Keep screen on and plug in for long counts.
- Count one direction per counter page tab if you need directions separately, or add types such as "Cars northbound".
- Leave the page open: counts save after every key press, so a refresh or a closed tab loses nothing.
Questions
Can I count in 15-minute intervals?
Yes. Keep counting without stopping; the CSV splits every count into 15-minute blocks by clock time, with a column per vehicle type and a total.
How many vehicle types can I have?
Up to 16. Keys 1 to 9 work for the first nine; the rest are counted by tapping.
Does it need internet?
Only to open the page the first time. After that it keeps working offline, and nothing you count is sent anywhere.
I pressed the wrong key. Can I fix it?
Press U or Ctrl+Z to undo the last count, as many times as you need.
