How to use the field hockey scoreboard
Press +1 Goal under a team, or tap its big number, when the ball goes in. Corner adds a penalty corner to that team's count, which is the number most coaches want after the game. Start runs the quarter clock down from 15:00 and the horn sounds at zero; Next moves on to the next quarter.
A Green or Yellow card adds to the team's card count and starts a suspension chip under that team. The chip only counts down while the game clock runs, and it follows the clock into the next quarter. Tap a chip to clear it early. Red only adds to the count, because a red card sends the player off for the rest of the game.
Level at the end? Shootout opens a panel where you mark each attempt as scored or missed, and the board names the winner. Open display window shows a large read-only board on a second screen, Chart plots the goals through the game and Download CSV lists every goal with its time. For ice or street play, the hockey scoreboard has shots on goal and penalty minutes instead.
Quarters, cards and the shootout
The clock starts at four quarters of 15 minutes, the format of international field hockey. School, youth and indoor games often use other lengths, so change Quarter length in Settings to match your competition.
How long a green card or a yellow card keeps a player off depends on the rules you play under and, for yellow cards, on the umpire. Set both lengths in Settings: the board starts at 2 minutes for green and 5 minutes for yellow, and 0 turns the timer off so only the card is counted.
In the shootout each team takes five attempts to start, in turn. As soon as one side can no longer be caught the board calls it; if they are level after five each, it goes to sudden death, one attempt each. Change the number of attempts in Settings if your tournament uses another number. Shootout goals show next to the score and are not added to it.
Keyboard shortcuts
- A or ←: goal for the left side; L or →: goal for the right side; add Shift to take it back
- 1 to 5: the left team's Goal, Corner, Green, Yellow and Red buttons; 6 to 0: the same for the right team
- Space starts and stops the quarter clock, P goes to the next quarter and S swaps the teams' sides
- U (or Ctrl+Z) undoes the last tap, F fills the screen and M turns the sound off or on
Questions
Does a card timer keep running when the clock stops?
No. Each suspension chip is tied to the game clock, so it freezes when you stop the clock for an injury or a video referral and carries on when you restart it.
Can I count penalty corners without a goal?
Yes. Corner only adds to the penalty corner count. If the corner is converted, press +1 Goal as well.
What if a player gets a second yellow card?
Press Yellow again to count it and start a new chip. Card counts and chips are separate, so you can clear a chip without losing the count.
Is the score saved if I close the page?
Yes. The score, cards, running timers and clock are stored in your browser as you go, so a refresh or a closed tab picks up where you were. Nothing is sent anywhere.
